The BMW x5 eDrive was first unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt International Auto Motor Show. As the first vehicle from BMW to combine xDrive all-wheel-drive technology with a plug-in hybrid system, the X5 eDrive can function in all-electric mode generating zero emissions.
At the 2014 New York Auto Show in April 2014, the BMW Concept x5 eDrive debuted there but still had ‘concept’ in its stage name.
At the 2014 LA Auto Show (November 2014), the x5 eDrive no longer had concept in its name, and BMW said it would enter production in April 2015.
Availability in the USA
The BMW x5 eDrive is the first non i-sub-brand plug-in hybrid from BMW, and will likely arrive this fall in the USA as a 2016 model year.
Some websites are predicting that the eDrive BMW x5 pricing will be announced by mid-March, and it will be on the market in July.
